Glove Loss is Inherent in the Design and Removal of Exam Gloves From the Box
Exam gloves are packaged tightly in rectangular boxes. Each box has a tear-away opening to access gloves. The boxes are usually placed in wall-mounted dispensers with the tear-away opening facing outward. The irregular shape of the tear-away opening does little to hold gloves in place.
Exam gloves often stick together as they are withdrawn from the box. Removing a single glove frequently allows one or more trailing gloves to fall on the floor. These exam gloves are now contaminated, unusable, and need to be discarded.
Glove Catcher® Glove Trays Reduce Glove Loss
Data was collected and shared from one health system’s test in a 24-exam-room unit.
Researchers compared glove usage with and without a Glove Catcher® glove tray. The objective was to determine the number of exam gloves that went unused. Seven days of data were assembled.
